Honey Cocktails & Mocktails for Your Holiday Gatherings

DRINK ME.

Our recommendations for the best honey cocktail recipes for the holidays and beyond.

Let's start off with the aptly named The Bee's Knees cocktail, a prohibition era drink that fully encompasses the flavor of our favorite syrupy sweetener. Similar to a Gin Sour which usually contains gin, sugar and lemon, The Bee's Knees replaces the sugar with honey. This creates a richer, more complex flavor and was possibly done to mask the undesirable taste of low quality gin being produced in the 20's. Assuming your gin standards are up to par you won't need to worry about that.

The Bee's Knees

2 ounces of your favorite gin
3/4 ounce of lemon juice
1/2 ounce of honey simple syrup (see below)

Add all ingredients to a shaker. Shake. Pour over ice. Top with a candied lemon slice or a sprig of thyme.

How to Make the Simple Syrup

Honey won't blend well into a cold drink as it tends to clump. Add 1/4 ounce Fool's Gold Honey with 1/4 oz water and heat in a pan on low until well blended.

Make it Spicy

Use Fool's Gold Spicy Pepper honey to add a kick to this zesty drink.

Lady Washington

1 ounce brandy
1/2 ounce elderflower liqueur
3/4 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
1/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/4 ounce elderberry infused honey
3 ounces of your favorite sparkling wine

Combine the brandy, liqueur, fruit juices and honey in a shaker. Shake, strain and pour into a glass. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with candied citrus slices and rosemary sprigs. We recommend creating a simple syrup with the elderberry honey to have a really smooth drink.

Mocktail Version

Make an alcohol free version of this citrusy beverage by omitting the brandy and sparkling wine and replacing them with sparkling grapefruit juice. Swap the elderflower liqueur for elderflower syrup. This will add extra sweetness to the drink which you can balance by upping the lemon juice.

3 3/4 ounces sparkling grapefruit juice
1/2 ounce elderflower syrup
3/4 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/4 ounce elderberry infused honey

Combine the fruit juices, syrup and honey in a shaker. Shake, strain and pour into a glass. Top with sparkling grapefruit juice and garnish with candied citrus slices and rosemary sprigs. We recommend creating a simple syrup with the elderberry honey to have a really smooth drink.
